Okahana

cow

Mixed · exported 1994 · Mannett Group

Okahana was one of four black foundation females — with Nakayuki, Kanetani and Nakagishi 5 — imported from Japan by the Mannett Group (World K's) in August 1994, a shipment that also brought the bulls Kenhanafuji and Takazakura. This second consignment broadened the maternal base of the young North American fullblood herd beyond the three celebrated 1993 cows. Calves registered from the group after arrival included Tanitsuru, Nakazakura, Kitaguni Jr and Reiko. Okahana's specific pedigree and registration number are not well documented in public breeder sources, but her name survives as a recognized maternal line in later pedigrees. She matters as part of the small nucleus of genuinely Japan-exported foundation females on which the entire fullblood population outside Japan was built.
