Hirashigetayasu
Kedaka (Tottori) · exported 1997 · 3,246 AU progeny
Hirashigetayasu, tag '001' (ETJ001, J2351, herdbook FB670), is one of three patriarch bulls imported to the USA in 1997 by Chris Walker of Westholme from the ET Japan Company in Hokkaido, alongside Itomoritaka '002' and Kitateruyasudoi '003'. His semen was then used heavily in Australia, founding a large branch of the national herd. Sired by the celebrated Kedaka-line bull Dai 20 Hirashige out of Dai 5 Yuruhime, with the Tajiri sire Tayasu Doi as maternal grandsire, his very name fuses 'Hirashige' and 'Tayasu'. Predominantly Kedaka, he is prized for contributing growth, frame, milk and size to outcross programs, and is one of only three foundation sires (with Itomoritaka and Haruki 2) with a positive grass-fed score, an asset for pasture systems. He tests SCD AA and free of known recessives. With roughly 3,246 Australian-registered progeny, he ranks among the most influential foundation sires in both Australia and the USA and remains a go-to source of frame and maternal size.
