Fukutsuru 068
Tajima · exported 1994 · 1,000 AU progeny
JVP Fukutsuru 068 (FB2101) is arguably the most famous Wagyu bull in American history and a benchmark for the Tajima marbling type. Born 29 May 1992 in Hyogo Prefecture, he is 100% Tajima, sired by Dai 2 Yasutsuru 774 out of Teruyasu J649663; his maternal granddam was the legendary 'Hyogo Cow,' Kikutsuru. He was exported to the United States in 1994 through Japanese Venture Partners (JVP). For a remarkable stretch he ranked #1 in marbling in every Washington State University / National Wagyu Sire Summary from 2001 through 2016, only displaced (by Sanjirou 3) to #2 in 2017. Fukutsuru is prized for producing exceptionally fine, dense marbling and is typically used as a terminal sire; his calves tend to be smaller-framed with slower growth but superb carcass quality, so breeders pair him for marbling rather than size. He is an F11 carrier and free of other known genetic conditions. As his straws became rare, semen prices climbed sharply. He recorded roughly 1,000 registered progeny in Australia and remains a defining name in the Tajima marbling tradition worldwide.
